What is Triangles

The dot-connecting game where every line matters

Triangles is a two-player strategy game played on a scatter of points. Take turns drawing a straight line between two points — as long as it does not cross another line or pass through a third point. Close a triangle and you claim it and go again. When no legal line remains, whoever has claimed the most triangles wins. Simple to learn, and every board plays differently.

How to play

How to play Triangles

Draw a legal line, claim every triangle it completes, and keep your extra turn going as long as you can.

  1. 1

    Read the board

A fresh board scatters 14 to 18 points at random — no grid, no fixed pattern. There are no lines yet. Player 1 (you, against the computer) always draws first.

  2. 2

    Draw a legal line

On your turn, connect any two points with a straight line. The only rules: the line cannot already exist, cannot cross another line, and cannot pass through a third point — no matter how far apart the two points are or how many other points sit between them.

  3. 3

    Claim the triangles you complete

The instant your line leaves three points fully connected to each other, you claim that triangle and its color fills in. If one line closes more than one triangle at once, you claim all of them.

  4. 4

Take your extra turn — or pass it on

Completing at least one triangle earns you another turn immediately, so a good line can chain into several in a row. A line that completes nothing passes play to the other side. The match ends when no two points can be legally connected; most triangles wins.

Tips to win more matches

  • Take a free triangle the moment a line offers one — passing it up only hands your opponent the initiative.
  • Before you draw, check whether your line leaves two sides of some other triangle in place, ready for your opponent to finish next turn.
  • When every remaining line sets up a triangle for someone, count the safe lines left — the player who runs out of safe moves first is the one forced to sacrifice.
  • If you must sacrifice, look for the smallest giveaway — one triangle is far better than opening a chain of three or four connected ones.

FAQ

Triangles, answered

Straight answers about the free Triangles strategy game you can play online in your browser.

What is Triangles?

Triangles is a two-player strategy game played on a scatter of points. Players take turns drawing a straight line between two points; a line that closes a triangle — three points all connected to each other — is claimed by whoever drew it, and that player takes another turn. The match ends when no legal line remains, and whoever has claimed the most triangles wins.

How do you play Triangles?

On your turn, draw a line between any two points that are not yet connected, as long as the line does not cross an existing line and does not pass through a third point. If your line completes one or more triangles, you claim them and go again; if it completes nothing, play passes to the other side. Keep going until no legal line remains, then compare triangle counts.

Is Triangles free to play online?

Yes. trianglegame.app is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no interruptive video ads, premium tiers, or paywalls.

Do I need to download an app or create an account?

No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app store download and no sign-up. Your stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.

What makes a line illegal?

Three things: the two points are already connected, the line would cross another line already on the board, or the line would pass through a third point on its way between the two you chose. Any of those makes the move illegal, regardless of how far apart the two points are.

How does the extra-turn rule work?

Completing at least one triangle with your line keeps the turn with you, so you draw again immediately. If that next line also completes a triangle, you go again, and so on — a strong move can chain through several captures in one turn. The turn only passes to your opponent after a line that completes nothing.

How does the computer opponent play?

On Easy, the computer mostly plays loosely and does not always take an available triangle. On Normal, it always takes a free triangle when one is on offer and avoids obvious sacrifices when it can. On Hard, it also looks one move ahead to pick the biggest available capture chain and, when forced to sacrifice, gives away as little as possible.

How do I win more matches?

Always take a triangle that is free right now. Before drawing any other line, check whether it leaves two sides of some triangle in place for your opponent to finish next. Late in a match, count how many safe lines remain — whoever runs out first has to sacrifice, so force your opponent into that position rather than yourself.

Does the game save my progress?

Wins, losses, draws, longest win streak, and best winning margin are saved locally in your browser, tracked separately for each computer difficulty and for pass-and-play. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. A match in progress is not saved if you close the tab.

Can I play Triangles on mobile?

Yes. The board and both scores fit on one portrait screen. Drag a line with your finger, or tap one point and then a second to connect them, and dealing a new board is instant with no page reload.
